MHS....Where you matter today!
GENERAL POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
BASIC RULES

1. You must come to class with your book and notebook every day. You may NOT come into my classroom with nothing in your hands. You will be sent to your locker and the tardy table to get necessary supplies and a tardy slip.

2. You must remain in your seat unless given permission to be out of it.
EVEN TO SHARPEN YOUR PENCIL!

3 . You must use your lifelines to leave the room. You will be given a slip with 3 lifelines on it each 6 weeks.

You must retain the slip in order to use it.

Your name must be on the lifeline.

Lifelines cannot be replaced if they are lost.

You may not share lifelines with other classmates.

6 weeks lifelines are only valid during the current 6 week period. Bonus lifelines (purple) are usable all year.

4. Any episode that interrupts the learning process (including, but not limited to, a) improper or inappropriate comments, b) spontaneous noises, loud comments, c) physical contact of any kind between two or more students, d) horseplay in lab) is deemed class disruption and will be handled according to the discipline ladder.
Consequence:
1st minor offense - name on discipline form, change seat, or isolate
2nd minor offense - full write-up on discipline form, isolate
3rd minor offense - 2nd write-up, phone call home,
4th minor offense - 3rd write-up, visit to asst. principle,
MAJOR OFFENSES ARE HANDLED IMMEDIATELY AND ACCORDING TO THE DISCIPLINE LADDER.

5. I take tardiness very seriously. I WILL send you to the tardy table if you are not at your seat. If can't see you (If you are just standing inside the door), you are tardy.

6. You must sit in the seat assigned to you. You will have an opportunity to change your seat after the first 6 weeks IF there have been no discipline problems with the class, or special circumstances that affect your seat choice.

7. You will find out very quickly that I respond more favorably to good behavior, effort, and politeness than poor behavior, sleeping/no effort, and disrespect. I generally live by the "golden rule" I will treat you the way you treat me.

GRADING POLICIES
Grading policies are determined by the science department and according to the class level.

Regular classes
70% Major grades: Tests - 40%, Projects - 20%, Quiz Avg. - 10%.
30% Minor grades: includes lab grades and homework.

QUIZZES are given regularly, (particularly after lecture notes). There are no retakes on quizzes.

TESTS
1. One retake allowed per six weeks. This retake will be over the same material but the questions will not be the same.
2. The highest grade you can make on the retake is 80.
3. If you do not take the test on the day it is given, an alternate form of the test will be administered.
4. Retakes and makeup tests must be completed within one week of the original test. Failure to adhere to this rule will result in loss of retake privilege or Zero grade on the test.

HOMEWORK IS DUE AS ASSIGNED:
Homework is assigned nightly with few exceptions. Late homework is rarely accepted. Parents are notified after the 3rd missing homework assignment.

WRITING INSTRUMENTS: Blue, black, or other dark color ink must be used for all written assignments. Assignments turned in with any other color will be rejected. You must do the assignment again in an acceptable color or lose credit. A 10% reduction in grade will be given.

CHEATING: The cheating policy is posted on the wall in the classroom and a copy must remain in your notebook at all times throughout the year.

SUPPLIES:

1. Three ring binder - 1 1/2 to 2 inch minimum. There are quite a few handouts. This notebook should not be shared with a maximum of one other subject.
2. Dividers - 1 set of 5 dividers is required to organize the notebook. Labels will be completed in class.
3. Loose leaf paper. (Absolutely necessary) Paper torn from a spiral notebook is not acceptable for assignments turned in. Notes may be kept in a spiral notebook.
4. Colored pencils available at home for the completion of homework assignments.
I have colored pencils to use in class but some students prefer to have their own.

THE TEACHER: PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY AS IT MAY DIRECTLY IMPACT YOUR GRADE!
Appointments are recommended for extra help and are required for makeup tests and labs. I am available Monday through Thursday both before school and after school. I usually arrive on campus by 6:50 AM each morning and I am here until 3:30 every day except Friday afternoon. Tests must be made up in their entirety in one sitting. You may not split the test between two or more days. If you are in athletics you must work out your tutoring and make up work time with your coach within MY guidelines, not theirs. I am happy to give you a pass if necessary. If you have made an appointment and I am not in my room at the appointed time, wait for me. If you come in without an appointment for tutoring, and I am not in my classroom, you can go to the front office and have me paged. You may also see Mrs Walker (Biology) in room 233, Mr Nulf (243) or Mr. Lawson (241) (Chemistry) for help.

A copy of these policies will be available in hard copy to all students their first day of class. I ask that the bottom of the form be signed by the student and the parent, and returned to class as soon as possible.
