English I Class Policies
We practice the 3 R’s in here!
(Responsible, Respectful, and Responsive)
I. Responsible
1. Be seated and ready to learn when the bell rings. Begin “bell ringer” activity.
2. Be PREPARED. Bring with you EVERY day:
a. Textbook and grammar workbook
b. English notebook and paper. (You may have a separate
notebook or a section for English in a larger binder.
c. Blue/black pen only for assignments.
d. Red pen for editing or revising.
e. Homework
f. Speckled composition book (to be left in the classroom—available at Wal-Mart for 50 cents).
NOTE: Student must have all supplies by Sept. 5 (A-day) or Sept. 6th (B-day).
II. Respectful
1. Respect yourself, others, property and the school rules
2. Raise hand for permission to speak or leave seat. Don’t ask for a pass during lesson presentation.
(You will get three bathroom passes every semester. If you don’t need them, they will be worth extra credit points at the end of the semester.
You will also get one homework pass every six weeks (worth extra points if you don’t use it).
3. Keep language and behavior school appropriate.
4. No food or drinks in the classroom.
5. Take care of personal grooming in the restroom (makeup, hair, etc.).
6. Respect the teacher’s supplies. Do not borrow anything without permission.
7. Be a quiet listener. Be attentive and supportive when others are speaking.
Do not interrupt.
8. Be quick to cooperate and participate in all classroom activities.
III. Responsive
1. Make the grade!
a. Major grades count 80% (unit test, SR grades, composition, projects, journal)
b. Daily grades count 20% (homework, daily/class work)
c. There will be at least one extra credit opportunity a six wks. Watch for it!
2. Make up your work!
a. Work assigned before an absence is due THE DAY YOU RETURN!
b. Work missed during an absence is due the first day after the same number of days missed. Tests and quizzes must be made up before or after school—not during class.
c. Use the new teacher web pages to keep up with missed assignments. Go to
www. misd.org then go to Schools, then Montgomery High, then to Campus Websites, then to Faculty, then to the teacher web page that you want.
d. If you need extra help, see me before or after school.
3. Watch out for late work!
a. No late daily homework accepted (unless absent when assigned).
(You will get one homework pass for daily grade each six wks.)
b. No major grades accepted late at all. No homework passes.
4. Watch out for cheating, including plagiarism. Cheating results in a zero, a parent contact, and an office referral. (If you copy from someone else, both students receive the zero.)
5. Follow format. All written work must have a three-line heading in upper right corner, title on top line, leave a space under title, begin work on 3rd line, and use of appropriate margins. All work must be in blue/black ink and no spiral torn-out pages accepted. Failure to follow guidelines will result in work not being accepted.

6. Keep your notebook in order! This is a running record of all graded
assignments and handouts. You will have periodic notebook quizzes.
