Teen Leadership...changing lives!
Welcome to the 2009-2010 Teen Leadership web page. My name is Randy Shelly. If the past two years are an indication of what the Teen Leadership class can do for students then the 2009-2010 classes will be phenominal! Last year's students had an educational experience that for many of them was a life-changing adventure in self-discovery and personal growth. This class is designed to allow students to find within themselves those leadership abilities that will allow them to become the leaders at MHS, in their homes, and the community of Montgomery. TL, now located in the new Ninth Grade Center, makes the transition from the junior high school setting to high school much easier for those who take this class. We're looking forward to a third outstanding year of growth in those young women and young men today who will be our adult leaders of tomorrow.

To the parents...
I am looking forward to meeting you at Meet the Teacher on Monday, September 14, 2009.
About Coach Shelly
I am beginning my 25th year in education, 9th at Montgomery. Prior to becoming the Teen Leadership Facilitator in 2007 I taught Integrated Physics and Chemistry both at MHS and Huntsville. I am currently the Assistant Head Football Coach and Head Track Coach. Prior to entering the education profession I was a Lieutenant with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for 12 years. Things I saw there convinced me that I needed to be working with young people on the outside of the fence rather than guarding them on the inside.

Educational Background:
Bachelor of Science degrees from Sam Houston State University in Agriculture / Criminology & Corrections
Kinesiology / Physical Science
Capturing Kids' Hearts / Teen Leadership Facilitator certification
Graduate of Trinity High School - Trinity Texas (some time ago)

Educational Philosophy:
Within every young person there is something good if we will give him or her the chance to find it. That begins with trust, me trusting them and them trusting me. Together we can find the way to improving ourselves and eventually to greatness.
Eagle or Chicken?
I have adopted the theme...
"You can walk with the Chickens or fly with the Eagles...the choice is Yours" for the Teen Leadership class. I believe that we get to make choices each and every day of our lives that determine whether we will soar like eagles or peck around on the ground like chickens...that choice is ours.

My view of a sunset
The sunset you see here from Toledo Bend is one of the beautiful pleasures of my life. To me it signifies the end of what I hope was a productive day where I made someone else's life a little more meaningful, a little more optimistic, or simply a little happier. It too signifies that for a brief period of time I can relax, rest, and prepare for the coming of another day...one which hopefully will be better than the one just past. Enjoy the little things...the beauty of the world around you and be thankful for the blessings that come your way.

First Semester Leaders move on!
The students from the first semester have moved on to greater challenges and bigger things. Their experiences in TL will help them face those challenges and accomplish more. They were a fine group of young men and women and have chosen to Fly with the Eagles!
Second Semester Teen Leadership Begins!
The changing of the semester brought a new group of future leaders into the Teen Leadership classes at MHS. After meeting for only three times with each class it is apparent that another group of kids who are anxious to improve themselves have chosen to take this class. I am looking forward to helping them broaden their comfort zones and having new experiences which will help them when it comes to dealing with their daily task of being a teenager in today's world. I am looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead with this new group of students. The exciting part is that they are looking forward as well.
